Tulsa Pools : New Technology

Cody Albright: Welcome to the Dive Time show. I’m your host, Cody Albright, and with me as always is my beautiful, lovely wife, Rachel.

Rachel: Hello.

Cody Albright: And we are the owners of Sierra Pools and Spas of Tulsa Pools. You can find us online at sierrapoolsandspas.com or give us a phone call at 918-884-8427. Again, that’s sierrapoolsandspas.com or give us a phone call at 918-884-8427. And now the intro’s over I will stop using my deep voice and we can really start talking.

So today we’re going to be talking about how to turn your Tulsa pool into a smart pool. So maybe your pool is dumb and you want it to be smart. So we’re going to have some steps, we’re going to have steps into creating your smart pool from a dumb pool.

So Rachel, how do you make a dumb pool smart?

Rachel: Well you know we have everything from smart TVs, smart cars, smart phones-

Cody Albright: Smart husbands.

Rachel: Good one.

Cody Albright: No.

Rachel: If you’re a smart husband I could control you remotely with technology and WiFi.

Cody Albright: No.

Rachel: Yeah.

Cody Albright: I’m must saying I’m smart.

Rachel: I guess you’re not smart.

Cody Albright: No? Okay.

Rachel: No I’m just kidding. Seems like everything these days is quote unquote smart. Tulsa Pools  And it makes things really easy. We think about back in the old days, how did people survive without a smartphone? How did they get around?

Cody Albright: I don’t know.

Rachel: How did they tell the time? I’ve heard of these ancient devices called watches. They used to wear on their wrists.

Cody Albright: What’s that?

Rachel: Now we even have smart watches now. We have the Apple watch, so everything’s smart, so why not make your pool smart? You can do this and we’re going to tell you how. There’s lots of technology available to make your pool a smart pool. I imagine here pretty soon all pools will be smart pools because technology just keeps advancing and everything just keeps heading that way. Taking care of a pool can be difficult at times and can require a lot of maintenance, but if you have a smart pool it can make things way easier for you. So before we get started about how to make your smart pool a smart pool, what makes anything smart? Cody?

Cody Albright: Umm.

Rachel: What does it mean when we say quote unquote smart TV or quote unquote smartphone?

Cody Albright: I guess a certain amount of technology that is into that product.

Rachel: Yeah, so it’s usually something that’s remotely controlled by WiFi or internet access. Yeah, that makes something smart, so we’re going to talk today specifically about how to turn your Tulsa pool into a smart pool. So there’s several things that you’re going to need to make your pool a smart pool. How many times can I say smart pool today? A lot.

Cody Albright: 67.

Rachel: A lot. The first thing that you’ll want to do is add a robotic pool cleaner and we actually talked about, in one of our other podcast, the best robotic pool cleaner. So if you haven’t checked that out, go check that article out. Now they aren’t really a smart per se, they don’t use WiFi but they are really cool and they make your maintenance a lot easier. If you have a smart pool and you’re still having to go out there and manually skim off the leaves, how smart is your pool? Not that smart, so robotic pool cleaner is the best way to go. They use electricity and they automatically clean your pool. They scrub the floors, they scrub the tiles, they can go on inclines, they can go on the walls, so robotic pool cleaner, that’s the first thing that you need to get.

Second thing that you can add are smart switches, which are really cool. Tulsa Pools Now this takes a little bit of work and it can be an investment, but it’s really cool. If you already, if you’ve heard about smart homes, then you’ll know that they allow you to control the lighting, the temperature, from wherever you are. So you could be in a different country, say we go travel to, we like to go Disney World, so say we go to Disney World and we’re like, “Oh shoot, think we left the lights on,” if you have a smart home, you can go to your phone and turn off the lights from your phone, which is crazy to me.

Cody Albright: How cool is that?

Rachel: It’s like that Disney Channel movie.

Cody Albright: You don’t have to remember anything.

Rachel: Remember that Disney Channel movie where the house is alive.

Cody Albright: What?

Rachel: You remember that?

Cody Albright: What’s it called?

Rachel: I think it’s called like smart house or smart mom or something like that. Tulsa Pools Anyways this is what it reminds me of.

Cody Albright: Must have missed that one.

Rachel: So you can extend these controls to your pool, but for this to work you will already have to have a smart home system in place. Then you’ll add the switches to control your pool. You can turn the lights on at night without having to get off your couch. You can even set a timer so that they turn on and off automatically. So again, you already have to have a smart home system in place for that. However, if you don’t want to invest that much into controlling your whole home and you just want your pool to be smart, you can try something like a WiFi enabled switch, this just has to be in range of your WiFi to work, but it’ll accomplish the same thing without having to make your whole house smart. So smart switches.

Cody Albright: Yep.

Rachel: The next thing that you’ll need to make your smart pool will be smart pool monitors. Tulsa Pools So this is going to monitor the temperature, the chemical make-up, and it’ll even tell you how much chemical you need to add, depending on the type of monitor you choose to buy. So again, these devices, because they’re smart, connect to your WiFi network and your smartphone so you can monitor your pool from anywhere, like I was talking about before. You could be out of state, out of the country, and monitor everything from your phone. Swimuniversity.com recommends one called the pHin Smart pool monitor. This monitor covers almost every aspect of your pool. It goes from the ph level to the chlorine levels, so it’s going to be watched very closely at all times. When the chemicals get low, the monitor actually ships you pre-dosed chemicals, which is amazing. So you don’t even have to order anything, it just automatically sends it to you when it gets low. The app will tell you exactly what you need to do to balance your water, so you don’t even have to think about it.

Cody Albright: It’s like those Amazon buttons that you just click and they just send it [inaudible 07:06] to you.

Rachel: Exactly, but you don’t even have to click anything. It just, when it gets low it just automatically sends it to you.

Cody Albright: How cool is that.

Rachel: Which is crazy.

Cody Albright: You know when we have children or like the next generation’s going to expect this Tulsa Pools.

Rachel: They’re just not going to know how to think. They’re not going to think about anything.

Cody Albright: Everything’s going to do everything for them and they’re just not going to know, what, you got to actually do something?

Rachel: Yeah.

Cody Albright: No, we, they, yeah.

Rachel: No, but smart pool monitors they just take the guesswork out of your chemicals because it’s automatically calculating everything for you and that’s one of the most difficult parts of owning a pool is getting your chemical balance right. If you have a pool monitor and it can be one of the more daunting tasks, people kind of get freaked out by chemical balance and I’m going to test your water, and blah, blah, blah, so a smart pool monitor is a really nice way to go. You don’t have to think about it at all.

Cody Albright: And who likes thinking? Really.

Rachel: Yeah, who likes to think? Not me.

Cody Albright: Who likes to think about, who likes to use that brainpower and think, “Oh I got to remember doing this, this, and this,” but with this you don’t even have to. Look at that.

Rachel: Yeah. So really a smart pool is the only way to go if you’re in 2017.

Cody Albright: Come on.

Rachel: We’re in the future, so it’s time to update things.

Cody Albright: You don’t want to be old school, you don’t want to be your kids has those friends that they don’t want to come to your house because you got the old stuff. They want to go to their friend’s house that has all the smart stuff, which I don’t really know if that would affect, yeah.

Rachel: Yeah. Everything’s smart these days, coffeemakers, our washing machines, everything. All joking aside, it does just make everything a lot easier. Takes a lot of maintenance time away-

Cody Albright: They make smart coffeemakers?

Rachel: Well like the Keurig, for example, so we can program our Keurig to turn on at a certain time and brew us a cup of coffee at a certain time.

Cody Albright: Like it’ll start brewing automatically?

Rachel: Uh-huh, if you set a timer on it.

Cody Albright: Oh I didn’t know that. Yeah but Keurig coffee’s just gross.

Rachel: Yeah.

Cody Albright: It doesn’t taste as good.

Rachel: But everything’s kind of going the smart direction,  Tulsa Pools so it’s definitely something to look at. It is a bit of an investment but if you can afford it, it’s definitely worth it.

Cody Albright: So you need to ask yourself, do you want to be smart? Now if you say no, well we can’t really help you. You’re just, what’s that, stubborn?

Rachel: Yeah.

Cody Albright: Or not calling you that but, you’re not, yeah.

Rachel: That’s okay. Some people aren’t progressive, some people like to do it the old school way and put a little elbow grease and things.

Cody Albright: People don’t want to be [inaudible 09:47]. Don’t know why people want to do that?

Rachel: But if you want to have smart pool, these are the things that you need, and the steps that you need to take to do it.

Cody Albright: Yeah, so definitely recommend it, so it’s less hassle, less thinking, less physical, it helps. It’s nice. I don’t think you’ll ever regret it, ever, putting one of these systems into your pool. I think that’s about the time we have for the day, so if want some smart stuff, think about Sierra Pools and Spas. So every time you think about smart things, think about Sierra Pools and Spas, and then every time you think about Sierra Pools and Spas, think about how smart you can get.

That’s all the time we have. Appreciate you for listening divers. We will catch you next time.  Tulsa Pools So be smart. I’m Cody.

Rachel: And I’m Rachel.

Cody Albright: We’ll talk to you next time.
